Karen Lopez Granite Media Partners Karen Lopez is an Executive Publisher with Granite Media Partners which owns 10 community newspapers across the southeast Texas area. Karen oversees the upper management and sales for the company. She started her career in the late ‘80s as an emergency medical dispatcher. She calls this her passion, as she enjoys helping others. Her career quickly turned into an advertising role working with Rupert Murdock’s Sun Newspapers, on the east side of Houston. As a publisher, she oversaw two newspapers with 80,000 copies per week. Moving onto a major metro, she continued her journey with an eight-year stint at the Houston Chronicle. Missing the connection with the area she served, Karen soon decided that community newspapers was where she wanted to spend the last years of her career. As she began her time as the publisher of The Sealy News, she knew that passing on her knowledge was important, thus leading her into her current role. Deeping the connection between a newspaper and the community they serve has always been her number one goal. Developing, implementing, planning, and seeking goals to improve the vicinity is as important as keeping the government transparent. Karen has more than 20 years of experience in media and public relations and holds several certificates with FEMA, telecommunications, and marketing. Some of the achievements that she is most proud of include being the past president of two Rotary Clubs, 13 years with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Board of Directors with the Sealy Main Street, Inspirational Award for the North Channel Women’s Coalition, board member of the Texas Association of First Responders, and CTE and Interact Advisor for the Sealy High School. Her noblest moments are being a wife to Eddie, a 34-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, raising four high-achieving children, and having the love of her six grandsons. |
