Martha Martinez was a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley moving to San Felipe/Sealy in 2015. Martha graduated from the University of Texas Pan American with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Science and Education).

Martha taught Middle School Science for the McAllen Independent School District for four years. She then returned to field research. Employed by Emory University, Martha was the Senior Research Coordinator for a local research project in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and North Carolina State University, Internships and research with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, Student Conservation Association, Americorp and the US Fish & Wildlife Service led Martha to a career in conservation.

Martha Martinez was hired into park management for Texas Parks & Wildlife Department at Estero Llano Grande State Park, the Weslaco Wing of the World Birding Center to oversee the development of a new state park in the Rio Grande Valley in November 2002. She worked toward increasing and enhancing the park’s natural resources and infrastructure and oversaw all aspects of park operations for twelve years.

Martha has been employed by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for 17 years. In August 2015 she took her most recent Park Superintendent position at Stephen F. Austin State Park where she currently also manages all aspects of park operations and is currently overseeing two capital flood projects.
