Peggy Lee Hood Spradley
Our Leader, Our Friend
August 3, 1944 – February 15, 2022

Peggy Lee Hood Spradley was an icon in the Sealy and Austin County, Texas communities. Peggy was born and raised in California but became a Texan once she retired from her position as Vice President with Michelin and married the love of her life, Marvin Spradley in 1985. Once married, Peggy and Marvin, headed straight to Texas, where Marvin was born and raised. After moving to Sealy in the late 1980’s Peggy began her Chamber career in 1990 at the Sealy Chamber of Commerce and the Sealy Convention and Visitors Bureau where she served most of the years as the Executive Director of both organizations. Peggy served both for 32 years where she felt most at home.

Peggy had a great passion for history and decided learning the history of Texas was very important for anyone who lived here. Peggy became an encyclopedia on the State of Texas! She used all of her knowledge to help promote Sealy and Austin County through the Convention and Visitors Center as well as the Members of the Sealy Chamber. Peggy was an inspiration to many as well as being a wonderful leader to all.

She was one of the founding board members of the I-10 Community Alliance which is now known as the Central Texas I-10 Community Alliance. The Texas Independence Trail Region created the “Texas Trailblazer Award”, named in honor of Peggy for all the hard work and hours she put in advancing the mission of the region.

Peggy also served on the board of the Friends of the San Felipe de Austin State Historical Site. She was an intricate part in bringing to life the state-of-the-art museum now serving many families, school children and individuals at the Stephen F. Austin State Historic Site.

In addition to the above organizations, she was also involved in The Sealy American Legion Auxiliary where she spent her last years as Vice President, Sealy American Legion Bingo, Austin County Historical Commission, East Texas Tourism Association and was a founding board member of the Bellville Heritage Gathering.
