Small Business Saturday

Shop Sealy for the Season!

Small Business Saturday, November 27, 2021
Shop Local, Eat Local, Spend Local, Enjoy Local Small Business Saturday is just around the corner!

The Sealy Chamber of Commerce and the Sealy Main Street have partnered in an effort to get the word out to “Shop Local, Eat Local, Spend Local, Enjoy Local.”

Here is the behind “Shop Small” - Small Business Saturday
American Express cares deeply about thriving communities and believes small businesses are at the core of every successful neighborhood. That’s why in the midst of the recession in 2010, American Express created Small Business Saturday® on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses.

The first Small Business Saturday is a success. One year later, as the Shop Small
Movement gains momentum, local officials across the nation take notice and move to promote the day.

In 2011, the Senate unanimously passes a resolution in support of the day, and
officials in all 50 states participate. In an effort to support their local communities,
organizations across the country sign up to serve as Neighborhood Champions.
These supporters bring their community together with events and activities on
Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.

They’re not alone. In 2011, business associations, nonprofit trade groups, municipalities, and public officials start to unite, forming a Small Business Saturday Coalition to encourage everyone to Shop Small.

You might not realize it, but every time you take a yoga class at your neighborhood spot or buy a gift from the local artist down the street, you’re shopping small and making a difference.

In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stay in the local community.1  So when you Shop Small on Small Business Saturday, and all year long, you can help create a big impact.

In 2019, shoppers came together to support their local communities more than ever. The 10th Annual Small Business Saturday hit a record high with an estimated $19.6 billion in reported spending.2

Small Business Saturday continues to be an annual holiday shopping tradition, just one part of the larger Shop Small Movement that supports small businesses every day and everywhere.

Because shopping at a family-owned framing spot or buying a handmade ring from your favorite online small business helps to promote more vibrant communities. That’s why American Express is proud to back Small Business Saturday and the Shop Small Movement.

Supporting small businesses is more important than ever. We all have favorite small businesses we can’t imagine living without. However, fewer small businesses are opening and staying open. To be successful requires an abundance of grit, passion and determination.

Let’s work together to show or support of our Sealy Community Businesses. Shop our local shops and restaurants on November 28 and throughout the year! Make this holiday season a wonderful one for you while making it great for our community!

1 Estimate from data on businesses with under 100 employees, as reported in Amex-commissioned 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study, amex.co/another-reason-shop-small.
2 The 2019 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey was conducted by Teneo on behalf of American Express and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The study is a nationally representative sample of 2,287 U.S. adults 18 years of age or older. The sample was collected using an email invitation and an online survey. The study gathered self-reported data and does not reflect actual receipts or sales. It was conducted anonymously on December 1, 2019. The survey has an overall margin of error of +/- 2.0%, at the 95% level of confidence. Projections are based on the current U.S. Census estimates of the U.S. adult population, age 18 years and over.
