Don was born and raised in Sugar Land, Texas. He moved to Austin County in 1979 where he was a band director at Sealy I.S.D. from 1979 to 2004.
He served on the Bellville City Council for many years. He is currently on the Austin County Historical Commission. He also volunteers at the Austin County Jail Museum and for Allumine Hospice.
Don served on local, district and state committees and office levels in the Texas Retired Teachers Association. He has worked close with many of our State Legislators.
Don's wife, Janet Allphin, is also a retired teacher from Sealy. She is a church musician and also volunteers with Allumine Hospice.
The Allphin's have one son who is a police officer and their daughter-in-law works for Texas A&M. They also have twin grandchildren in College Station.
